Andres Jaramillo, Ph.D. is the Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory and Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona, a position he has held since 2017. He started his career as Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Parasitology at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia (1994-1997). He received his Ph.D. from the University of Louisville, in 1991 and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Banting & Best Department of Medical Research at the University of Toronto (1991-1994).

Dr. Jaramillo has held positions across the United States including Associate Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona (2015-2017), Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory at Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network in Chicago (2007-2015), Director of the Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Laboratory at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago (2004-2007), Assistant Director of the Histocompatibility Laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis (2001-2004), and Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis (1997-2001).

Dr. Jaramillo has extensive experience in immunology, histocompatibility, and immunogenetics. He has been the recipient of several prestigious awards, such as a Fulbright Scholarship (1986-1991), a Charles H. Best Postdoctoral Fellowship (1991-1993), a Canadian Diabetes Association Postdoctoral Fellowship (1993-1994), a Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (1998-2001), and an ASHI Scholar Award (1999). He has published more than 200 journal articles, book chapters, and meeting abstracts. His scientific output currently yields an h-index of 26 and has been cited more than 1600 times. In addition, he is certified as a High-Complexity Clinical Laboratory Director (HCLD) and Clinical Consultant (CC) in diagnostic immunology by the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB).
