Proper Use

Take this medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not take more of it, do not take it more often, and do not take it for a longer time than your doctor ordered. To do so may increase the chance of side effects.

This medicine comes with a patient information insert and patient instructions. Read and follow the instructions carefully. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.

You may take this medicine with food.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not cut, crush, break, or chew it.

Swallow the capsule whole. If you are unable to swallow the capsule whole:

  • Gather the supplies (eg, container, applesauce or yogurt, teaspoon, disposable gloves) needed to prepare the mixture.
  • Put on disposable gloves. Add the amount of room temperature applesauce or yogurt needed to the container. Do not use any other food.
  • Carefully open the capsule and mix the entire contents with applesauce or yogurt.
  • Swallow the mixture right away without chewing. Do not store the mixture for later use.
  • Throw away the empty capsule shell in the household thrash.
  • Wash the teaspoon and container with soap and warm water. Remove the gloves and throw them away in the household thrash. Wash and dry your hands.

If you are taking an antacid (eg, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, Maalox®, Rolaids®, or Tums®) or stomach medicine, take it at least 2 hours before or after you take bosutinib.

Do not drink grapefruit juice while you are using this medicine. Grapefruit juice may change the amount of medicine that is absorbed in the body.

Dosing

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

  • For oral dosage form (capsules or tablets):
    • For the treatment of newly-diagnosed CP Ph+ CML:
      • Adults—400 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated. However, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg per day.
      • Children 1 year of age and older—Dose is based on body surface area (BSA) and must be determined by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated. However, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg per day.
        • BSA 1.1 meter squared (m2) or greater—400 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.9 to less than 1.1 m2—300 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.75 to less than 0.9 m2—250 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.55 to less than 0.75 m2—200 mg once a day.
        • BSA less than 0.55 m2—150 mg once a day.
      • Children younger than 1 year of age—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
    • For the treatment of CP Ph+ CML in patients who have used other treatments that did not work well:
      • Adults—500 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated. However, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg per day.
      • Children 1 year of age and older—Dose is based on body surface area (BSA) and must be determined by your doctor. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated. However, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg per day.
        • BSA 1.1 meter squared (m2) or greater—500 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.9 to less than 1.1 m2—400 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.75 to less than 0.9 m2—350 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.63 to less than 0.75 m2—300 mg once a day.
        • BSA 0.55 to less than 0.63 m2—250 mg once a day.
        • BSA less than 0.55 m2—200 mg once a day.
      • Children younger than 1 year of age—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
    • For the treatment of AP Ph+ CML or BP Ph+ CML in patients who have used other treatments that did not work well:
      • Adults—500 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated. However, the dose is usually not more than 600 mg per day.
      • Children—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

If you miss a dose of this medicine and it has been more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Storage

Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Keep from freezing.

Keep out of the reach of children.

Do not keep outdated medicine or medicine no longer needed.

Ask your healthcare professional how you should dispose of any medicine you do not use.
