Internal Medicine, referred to as the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic, is the largest clinical department at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. It comprises more than 540 physicians, 360 residents and fellows and more than 1,000 allied health personnel distributed over 13 divisions. Each year, physicians in the department care for more than 500,000 patients.
Many Internal Medicine physicians have been elected to prestigious societies, such as the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians; serve as leaders of subspecialty and specialty organizations; are editors of prestigious journals; and conduct important research. Several divisions in the department consistently rank among the best specialties by U.S. News & World Report.
