Mayo Clinic works with hundreds of insurance companies and is an in-network provider for millions of people. In most cases, Mayo Clinic doesn't require a physician referral. Some insurers require referrals, or may have additional requirements for certain medical care. All appointments are prioritized on the basis of medical need.

Doctors who diagnose and treat heart diseases (cardiologists) generally can see most people within two weeks after their appointment requests. Often cardiologists can see people within a week or less after the appointment request. People who have urgent needs usually can be seen within 24 hours after their requests. In emergencies, people are referred directly to the Emergency Department.
