Comprehensive research is an integral part of Mayo Clinic. Researchers continue to develop new diagnostic tests for several immunodeficiencies in the sample repository within the Cellular and Molecular Immunology Laboratory. The sample repository was developed by Mayo Clinic staff to help support research and facilitate advancement in clinical practice. Blood samples from adult and pediatric patients with a variety of primary immunodeficiencies are kept in the repository and are used for research as well as clinical validation of new diagnostic tests.

The center combines laboratory-based work and clinical research. Such collaboration enables efforts such as the study of antibody responses to a pneumonia vaccine, which is a commonly used diagnostic test for several primary immunodeficiencies.
