Learning from others who have faced a lung transplant can make a complex process easier to understand. Patients tell us about the personal connections, attention to detail, and coordinated care they experienced at Mayo Clinic. Together, those things make care at Mayo Clinic feel different from other healthcare experiences. Their stories bring that difference to life.

Different paths through transplant care.

There is no single lung transplant journey. Some people receive a transplant after years of living with an advanced lung disease. Others become critically ill quickly. Some need temporary life support, in-depth donor-lung evaluation, or a heart-lung transplant. Recovery and life after transplant also look different from person to person.

Caregivers are part of the journey, too.

Support can take many forms during transplant care. The people helping you may notice changes in your health, keep important details organized, and help you seek specialized care. They can also support recovery and help manage life around treatment.
