One of the reasons that played a major role in my decision to become a physician, is the sense of empathy and compassion. These two have always been the major driving forces in my life, and the way I conducted myself as a person. So heartening to see somebody who is struggling to breathe, gets a gift of life in the form of a lung transplant. To see them recover fairly rapidly to the point that they don't need to be using oxygen to help them breathe. And at Mayo we are very privileged to have an experienced multidisciplinary team, that can accomplish this on a day to day basis.
