Michael P. Gustafson, Ph.D. serves as the Scientific Director of the Nyberg Human Cellular Therapy Laboratory. Dr. Gustafson and his team are focused on immune and cell therapy applications into clinical trials. In addition to manufacturing cells for clinical trials, the lab provides immune monitoring and product characterization to gain critical information to potentially optimize patient responses to such therapies.

Focus areas:

  • Cancer vaccines and immunotherapy
  • Tumor-mediated immune suppression and the effects on human immune competency
  • Biomarker development to understand responses to immune and cellular therapies
  • Translational applications of mesenchymal stem cells

Dr. Gustafson and his team are driven to offer novel investigational therapies for patients with diseases that often do not have optimal treatments. The lab works closely with clinicians for obtaining external and internal regulatory approval of clinical trials, patient collections, cell manufacturing, and treatment administrations.

Dr. Gustafson believes that tailoring the patient's immune system to the most appropriate immune/cell therapy will ultimately improve patient outcomes.
