Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Blurred vision
  2. burning, prickling, or tingling sensations
  3. clumsiness or unsteadiness
  4. confusion
  5. continuous, uncontrolled back-and-forth or rolling eye movements
  6. dizziness
  7. double vision
  8. drowsiness
  9. eye redness or pain
  10. generalized slowing of mental and physical activity
  11. increased eye pressure
  12. memory problems
  13. menstrual changes or pain
  14. nervousness
  15. speech or language problems
  16. trouble in concentrating or paying attention
  17. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Aggression
  2. agitation
  3. chest pain
  4. chills
  5. discouragement
  6. feeling sad or empty
  7. fever
  8. irritability
  9. lack of feeling or emotion
  10. lessening of sensations or perception
  11. loss of appetite
  12. loss of interest or pleasure
  13. red, irritated, or bleeding gums
  14. sore throat
  15. stomach pain
  16. trouble sleeping
  17. weight loss

Rare

  1. Blood in the urine
  2. difficult or painful urination
  3. frequent urination
  4. hearing loss
  5. itching, skin rash
  6. loss of bladder control
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. nosebleeds
  9. pale skin
  10. ringing or buzzing in the ears
  11. swelling
  12. trouble breathing

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  2. bloating
  3. bone fractures, especially of the thigh bone
  4. bone pain, tenderness, or aching
  5. clay-colored stools
  6. constipation
  7. cough
  8. decrease in height
  9. diarrhea
  10. increased rate of breathing
  11. joint or muscle pain
  12. muscle weakness
  13. pain in the back, ribs, arms, or legs
  14. pain or tenderness in the upper stomach
  15. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  17. yellow eyes or skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Decreased awareness or responsiveness
  2. dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  3. severe sleepiness
  4. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Breast pain in women
  2. tremors

Less common

  1. Constipation
  2. feeling of warmth
  3. heartburn
  4. increased sweating
  5. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest

Rare

  1. Decrease in sexual performance or desire
