Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in the urine
  3. chest tightness
  4. chills
  5. cough
  6. diarrhea
  7. dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  8. fast heartbeat
  9. fever
  10. headache
  11. itching, hives, skin rash
  12. nausea
  13. painful or difficult urination
  14. pale skin
  15. sore throat
  16. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  17. sweating
  18. swollen glands
  19. trouble breathing
  20. unusual bleeding or bruising
  21. unusual tiredness or weakness
  22. vomiting

Less common

  1. Bloating or swelling of the face, hands, lower legs, or feet
  2. chest pain
  3. hoarseness
  4. lower back or side pain
  5. muscle weakness
  6. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  7. pounding or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  8. rapid weight gain
  9. red or purple spots on the skin, varying in size and remaining after pushing the skin surface
  10. tremor
  11. unexplained nosebleeds


  1. Bloody nose
  2. flushing of the face or neck
  3. swelling of the eyelids, face, or lips
  4. white patches on the tongue, in the mouth, or in the folds of the skin, including the genitals

Incidence not known

  1. Anxiety
  2. back pain
  3. blindness
  4. blurred or double vision
  5. chest pain or discomfort
  6. confusion
  7. dark urine
  8. decreased urine output
  9. decreased vision
  10. difficulty in speaking
  11. dilated neck veins
  12. discouragement
  13. double vision
  14. drowsiness
  15. extreme tiredness or weakness
  16. eye pain
  17. feeling of discomfort
  18. feeling sad or empty
  19. general feeling of tiredness and weakness
  20. inability to move the arms, legs, or facial muscles
  21. inability to speak
  22. irregular breathing
  23. irritability
  24. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  25. lack of appetite
  26. light-colored stools
  27. loss of interest or pleasure
  28. muscle aches or pain
  29. nightmares or unusually vivid dreams
  30. numbness, pain, tingling, or weakness
  31. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  32. painful or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  33. seizures
  34. shakiness and unsteady walk
  35. slow speech
  36. spitting or coughing up blood
  37. stiff neck
  38. stomach cramps, pain, or tenderness
  39. sudden numbness and weakness in the arms and legs
  40. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  41. trouble concentrating
  42. trouble sleeping
  43. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  44. upper right abdominal or stomach pain and fullness
  45. watery or bloody diarrhea
  46. yellow eyes and skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Fear or nervousness

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. bone pain
  3. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, “pins and needles”, or tingling feelings
  4. heartburn
  5. indigestion
  6. lack or loss of strength
  7. stomach discomfort, upset, or pain
  8. swelling or inflammation of the mouth
  9. weight loss


  1. Constipation
  2. sensation of temperature change
  3. sleepiness
  4. stuffy nose
