نعم، يمكن أن تؤثر قلة النوم على جهازك المناعي. توضح الدراسات أن من لا ينامون جيدًا أو لا ينامون بما يكفي أكثر ميلاً للإصابة بالمرض عند تعرضهم لفيروس، مثل فيروس البرد الشائع. كما يمكن أن تؤثر قلة النوم على سرعة تعافيك إذا تعرضت للمرض.

أثناء النوم، يطلق جهازك المناعي بروتينات تُسمى السايتوكينات، وبعضها يساعد في تعزيز النوم. مطلوب أن تزيد أنواع معينة من السايتوكينات عندما تتعرض للعدوى أو الالتهاب أو عندما تكون تحت ضغط. قد يؤدي الحرمان من النوم إلى انخفاض إنتاج هذه السايتوكينات الواقية. كما أن الأجسام المضادة المكافحة للعدوى تقل أثناء الفترات التي لا تحصل فيها على القدر الكافي من النوم.

لذلك يحتاج جسمك إلى النوم ليقاوم الأمراض المعدية. كما أن قلة النوم لمدة طويلة تؤدي إلى زيادة خطر إصابتك بالسمنة والسكري وأمراض القلب والأوعية الدموية (القلبية الوعائية).

ما القدر الذي تحتاج إليه من النوم لتدعم جهازك المناعي؟ يتراوح القدر الأمثل من النوم لمعظم البالغين ما بين سبع وثماني ساعات من النوم الجيد كل ليلة. يحتاج البالغون إلى ما بين تسع و10 ساعات من النوم. قد يحتاج الأطفال في سن المدرسة إلى 10 ساعات أو أكثر من النوم.

لكن النوم الأكثر ليس دائمًا أفضل. بالنسبة إلى البالغين، قد يؤدي النوم لأكثر من مدة تتراوح بين تسع و10 ساعات في الليلة إلى انخفاض جودة النوم، مثل صعوبة الخلود للنوم أو الاستمرار فيه.
