Biographical summary
Joseph Whalen M.D., Ph.D is an Assistant Professor and Consultant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida. Dr. Whalen specializes in Foot and Ankle Surgery, and has special interests in adult foot and ankle reconstruction. He treats all disorders of the foot and ankle, including: total ankle replacement.
He earned a bachelor's degree in Physiology and graduated a Louis Marsch Scholar from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. Dr. Whalen received his orthopedic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Whalen has authored over 20 scientific publications, contributed to multiple books, and has served as the Chair of Clinical Research for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic Florida. He has served as a task force member of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Whalen served in the Air Force and Guard Reserves and achieved rank as Major and Chief of Professional Services.
