Matthew A. Warner, M.D., is an anesthesiology and critical care physician. His clinical focus includes:

  • Leading multidisciplinary care teams for critically ill surgical patients.
  • Providing anesthetic care for patients requiring liver transplantation and for those with thoracic, orthopedic, spine, and vascular disease.
  • Optimizing transfusion utilization and patient blood health throughout the enterprise, including preoperative anemia management and bloodless surgery.

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Warner is the Associate Medical Director for Patient Blood Management (PBM) at the Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Warner is also highly active in research and medical education. He authors expert content and publishes in high-impact scientific journals. His research interests include:

  • Optimizing blood transfusion practices in unique clinical environments
  • Assessing the role of anemia in functional recovery after acute illness
  • Assessing bleeding risk with anticoagulation and antiplatelet therapy in surgical patients and those with critical illness
