He treats all disorders of the shoulder and elbow including: arthritis, rotator cuff tears, labral tears, fractures, and dislocations.

He earned a bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering from the College of Engineering at Iowa State University. He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of Iowa. Dr. Schoch received his orthopedic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a fellowship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery with The Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Schoch has authored more than 150 peer reviewed scientific publications and multiple book chapters. He serves as Member of the Exactech Shoulder Arthroplasty Design Team and is the Chair of the Equinoxe Research Advisory Board. Dr. Schoch is active in the design and development of new shoulder replacement implants and rotator cuff repair fixation devices. He is also working in the development of predictive analytics that can be utilized to predict patient outcomes after shoulder replacement in an effort to maximize patient outcomes. Dr. Schoch routinely performs computer guided shoulder replacements, and was one of the first surgeons in the United States to perform this surgery when the technology was introduced in 2017.

Dr. Schoch is extremely active in the development and evaluation of new technologies in shoulder replacement surgery. He has been extremely active in evaluating outcomes following shoulder replacement, based on his high volume shoulder replacement practice. As a member of the design team for one of the largest commercial shoulder arthroplasty companies, he has access to the newest available technologies and routinely evaluates these advances to improve patient outcomes after surgery.

In addition to a large shoulder replacement practice, Dr. Schoch also has a clinical interest in procedures that can prevent shoulder replacement and allow patients return to function using joint preserving techniques. These include superior capsular reconstruction, local tendon transfers (lower trapezius transfer) and cell based therapies (PRP, BMAC).
