Aroonsiri Sangarlangkarn, M.D., M.P.H.

Aroonsiri Howell, M.D, M.P.H., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a board-certified geriatric medicine specialist with clinical interest in HIV and Aging. She graduated magna cum laude with a BA in Economics from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, at the top 10% of her class as a phi beta kappa honor society member. She received her Medical Degree and Master of Public Health from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, NY. Dr. Howell completed her internal medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, New Haven, CT. She completed her geriatric medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY, with a special focus on HIV and Aging. In addition to her experience in the US, Dr. Howell has worked in both Uganda and Thailand to provide geriatrics care to HIV-infected patients. She joined the staff of the Division of Community Internal Medicine in 2017.

Her clinical focus includes:

  • Expertise in management of chronic diseases in older adults, including dementia, delirium, recurrent falls, and pressure ulcer
  • Providing care to adults aging with HIV/AIDs in the clinic setting
  • Providing care to older adults in care facilities and in patient's homes
  • Promoting multidisciplinary collaboration to improve care for aging adults with HIV/AIDs or older adults with multiple comorbidities
  • Discerning each patient's unique expectations of living with chronic disease and helping to facilitate advance care planning

In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Howell is active in research and education, providing mentorship to residents and geriatrics fellows. She also co-directs the Senior Sage Program, which partners seniors living in the community with medical students throughout their 4 years of medical school. The program helps future physicians learn about healthy aging through the eyes of an older adult. She has published scientific articles related to medical education programs similar to the Senior Sage Program as well as HIV and Aging issues.
