Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Agitation
  2. back pain
  3. being forgetful
  4. black, tarry stools
  5. bladder pain
  6. bleeding gums
  7. bloating or swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  8. bloody or cloudy urine
  9. blue lips and fingernails
  10. blurred vision
  11. burning, dry or, itching eyes
  12. burning or stinging of skin
  13. chest pain or tightness
  14. chills
  15. coma
  16. confusion
  17. cough
  18. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  19. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  20. decreased urine output
  21. defects in intelligence, short-term memory, learning ability, and attention
  22. delusions of persecution, mistrust, suspiciousness, and/or combativeness
  23. depression
  24. discharge, excessive tearing
  25. dizziness, faintness, or lightheadedness when getting up suddenly from a lying or sitting position
  26. drowsiness
  27. dry mouth
  28. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  29. fever
  30. frequent urge to urinate
  31. general feeling of illness
  32. hallucinations
  33. headache
  34. hostility
  35. increased blood pressure
  36. increased sweating
  37. irritability
  38. loss of appetite
  39. lower back or side pain
  40. mood or mental changes
  41. muscle aches and twitching
  42. nausea
  43. night sweats
  44. not able to pass urine
  45. painful cold sores or blisters on the lips, nose, eyes, or genitals
  46. painful or difficult urination
  47. pale skin
  48. palpitations
  49. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  50. problems with movement, walking, or speech
  51. rapid weight gain
  52. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  53. seizures
  54. sneezing
  55. sore throat
  56. stiff neck or back
  57. stomach pain
  58. stuffy or runny nose
  59. swelling in the legs and ankles
  60. swollen glands
  61. thirst
  62. tingling of the hands or feet
  63. trouble breathing
  64. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  65. unusual bleeding or bruising
  66. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness or feeling of sluggishness
  67. unusual tiredness or weakness
  68. unusual weight gain or loss
  69. unusually deep sleep
  70. unusually long duration of sleep
  71. vomiting
  72. white patches in the mouth or throat or on the tongue

Less common

  1. Changes or decreased in vision
  2. diarrhea
  3. difficulty swallowing
  4. eye pain
  5. hives, itching, skin rash
  6. muscle or joint pain
  7. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  8. redness of the eye
  9. seeing flashes or sparks of light
  10. seeing floating spots before the eyes, or a veil or curtain appearing across part of vision
  11. sensitivity of the eye to light
  12. swelling around the eyes

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Lack or loss of strength
  2. loss of thinning of the hair
