Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Burning, itching, redness, or stinging of the skin
  2. hives or welts, skin rash
  3. raised, dark red, wart-like spots on the skin, especially when used on the face

Rare

  1. Burning, itching, and pain in hairy areas, pus at the root of the hair

Incidence not known

  1. Backache
  2. black, tarry stools
  3. bleeding gums
  4. blindness
  5. blistering, burning, crusting, dryness, or flaking of the skin
  6. blood in the urine or stools
  7. blurred vision
  8. burning and itching of skin with pinhead-sized red blisters
  9. change in vision
  10. chest pain
  11. darkening of the skin
  12. decreased vision
  13. diarrhea
  14. dizziness
  15. dry mouth
  16. eye pain
  17. facial hair growth in females
  18. fainting
  19. fractures
  20. fruit-like breath odor
  21. full or round face, neck, or trunk
  22. headache
  23. increased hunger or thirst
  24. increased urination
  25. irritability
  26. itching, scaling, severe redness, soreness, swelling of the skin
  27. lightening of the normal skin color
  28. lightening of treated areas of the dark skin
  29. loss of appetite
  30. loss of sexual desire or ability
  31. loss of vision
  32. menstrual irregularities
  33. mental depression
  34. muscle wasting
  35. nausea
  36. painful or difficult urination
  37. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  38. reddish purple lines on the arms, face, legs, trunk, or groin
  39. redness and scaling around the mouth
  40. stomach pain
  41. sweating
  42. tearing
  43. thinning of the skin with easy bruising, especially when used on the face or where the skin folds together (eg, between the fingers)
  44. unexplained weight loss
  45. unusual bleeding or bruising
  46. unusual tiredness or weakness
  47. vomiting

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Body aches or pain
  2. change in hearing
  3. chills
  4. common cold
  5. cough
  6. difficulty with breathing
  7. dry skin
  8. ear congestion
  9. ear drainage
  10. earache or pain in the ear
  11. fever
  12. increased hair growth on the forehead, back, arms, and legs
  13. lightheadedness
  14. loss of voice
  15. runny or stuffy nose
  16. sneezing
  17. sore throat
