Caring Canines

Caring Canines is a formal animal-assisted activities program launched in September 2011 at both the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses of Mayo Clinic.

The program seeks specially trained and certified dogs to provide companionship and comfort to radiation oncology patients at Mayo Clinic.

Requirements

To be eligible for Caring Canines:

  • Handlers must be at least 21 years old
  • Handlers and dogs must be certified by the Delta Society, Therapy Dogs Inc. or Therapy Dogs International
  • Dogs must be up to date on mandatory vaccinations
  • Handlers and dogs must have previous experience in a health care setting

Application process

To apply for Caring Canines, complete and submit these forms. Paper copies of these forms are also available in the Volunteer Services offices at both the Phoenix and Scottsdale campuses of Mayo Clinic.

Submit your completed application materials by email, by fax to 480-301-4110 or by mail to:

After you submit your application materials, Volunteer Services will contact you to schedule an interview.
