Patient and Family Hospitality

This service offers several different opportunities for volunteer participation.

Volunteers may choose to visit with newly admitted patients to Rochester Methodist Hospital, informing them of amenities and services such as computers and the patient library that are available to them while they are hospitalized.

Volunteers also can staff a desk at the visitor lounge, found on every patient floor. Volunteers assist family members by answering questions and visiting with them while they wait in the lounge. The intensive care unit family lounge has an afternoon coffee hour hosted by a volunteer.

A third option is to help in the outpatient surgery areas at Rochester Methodist Hospital and at Gonda 7 and Gonda 15. Outpatient surgery volunteers may:

  • Assist nursing staff by readying pre-dismissal nourishment for patients.
  • Notify family members when a patient is out of surgery.
  • Host a family waiting site in the outpatient surgery area, including visiting with relatives and friends, making coffee as needed and alerting them when the patient has returned from surgery.

Two- or three-hour shifts are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
