I was asked why I liked to volunteer at the Erickson Hair & Skin Care Center. I loved being a make-up artist when I was working because I love to see people' eyes light up when they see something they aren't expecting in the mirror. That is what I love about the patients at the Erickson Center, as well. It is on such a different level though. It is true that when you look better, you feel better, and that gives our patients HOPE and the energy to trudge on, even when they aren't feeling like they can go another step. I don't feel as I do anything very important there, but when I see the hope in their eyes, it fills me with hope for them, and happiness that I can be a part of that for just a few hours a week. I feel blessed to be a part of the Auxiliary and wish that I could be there for more hours during the week, but a newborn, Aidan Matthew (6 weeks old) and my three year old, Ethan James, keep me hopping! I am also blessed to STAY HOME and be able to volunteer, for many women my age are not able to do that. My husband, Eric, is a nurse in the heart/lung transplant unit at Saint Marys. He works very hard so that I can stay home with the boys. We are very fortunate. And being part of the Erickson Hair and Skin Care Center is just one of the blessings in my life.
