Mayo Clinic Volunteer Services provide patients and visitors with hospitality, services and amenities through dedicated volunteers who give time and talent to honor Mayo's commitment that "the needs of the patient come first."
President: Dale Wordelman
Wordelman served as a clergyperson in the United Methodist Church until his retirement in 1999 when he moved from Red Wing to Rochester. His volunteer work on the Art Tour team at Mayo began in 2003. In addition to volunteering, Wordelman enjoys music, reading and walking. He and his wife also enjoy visiting their children and grandchildren who live in Massachusetts and Oregon, as well as vacationing each summer in Michigan at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
President-Elect: Dixie Schmidt
A visit to Mayo Clinic can be overwhelming for many patients and their families. Not only are they often suffering serious illness, they are seeking care sometimes in unfamiliar territory from caregivers they may not know.
Mayo volunteers reassure anxious visitors, provide assistance in very big surroundings, and offer comfort and amenities during waiting times. They seek to augment the efforts of a caring but busy professional staff to ensure individual attention to the personal needs that Mayo patients bring.
Volunteer assignments may involve direct interaction with patient and family members, or may be behind-the-scenes efforts. See the list below to learn about services currently provided by Mayo Clinic Volunteer Services.
