Mayo Hospice Volunteer Opportunities

Hospice volunteers are a vital part of a caring team that brings a personal touch to terminally ill persons and their families. If you would like to volunteer, we offer a number of unique and rewarding opportunities as a Mayo Hospice Volunteer.

Patient Care

Volunteers provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families. Provide respite care so that caregivers can take a break, run errands or take a nap. Assist with "light" household tasks. Assist the patient with tasks they are no longer able to complete themselves. Visit patients who reside in nursing homes, assisted living facilities or in the hospital. Provide an important communication link between the patient/family and the other members of the hospice team.

Program Activities

Volunteers provide assistance in the office by answering telephones or preparing mailings. Host hospice booths or displays at health fairs and community events. Assist with planning and execution of special events.

Bereavement Care

Volunteers provide support to the bereaved hospice family (additional training provided). Provide administrative support such as phone calls and mailings. Assist with planning memorial services and support groups. Co-facilitate grief support groups (additional training provided).

Charter House Hospice Suites Host/Hostess

Volunteers provide companionship and support to patients and their families residing at the Charter House Hospice Suites.

Resource Volunteer

Volunteers provide volunteer services to Mayo Hospice patients for which you are licensed or certified. This may include hairdresser, message therapist, music therapist, legal assistance, etc.
