Art is an important part of the Mayo Clinic healing environment. Works of art, reflecting a wide variety of artists, time periods and cultures, are displayed throughout the Mayo campus. Volunteers lead interpretive tours of art exhibits located in the interiors of Mayo buildings. A script including information about all pieces is provided. Watch the video "The Birth of a Legacy."
Qualifications
- Must appreciate and be interested in art, especially the art pieces at Mayo Clinic, including a willingness to deviate from the script to answer questions.
- Previous experience in leading and communicating with a group is helpful but not a prerequisite.
- An attitude of friendliness, hospitality and professionalism is required.
- Dependability is essential since art tours are offered daily.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to lead visitors on a walking tour for a minimum of 90 minutes.
- Must be able to project voice to be heard by a group of up to 25 people.
Simulation Center
Volunteers in the multidisciplinary Simulation Center tour groups and visitors through the center and share information about the center. These tours are prearranged by date and length to fit both the availability of the visitors and volunteers. Volunteers also provide tours during scheduled Open Houses that occur once a month.
Qualifications
- Willingness to become knowledgeable about the center.
- Previous experience in leading and communicating with a group is preferred.
- An attitude of friendliness, hospitality and professionalism is required.
- Dependability is essential.
- Cooperative attitude toward staff.
Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to lead visitors on a walking tour lasting from 30 to 60 minutes.
- Must be able to project voice to be heard by group.
