Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS)

Treatment in Minnesota

Some of the first video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) procedures in the United States were performed at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota more than 20 years ago. Today, more than 150 VATS procedures are performed annually in Minnesota. You will be cared for in a hospital unit dedicated to chest surgery patients, which offers lung (pulmonary) rehabilitation and pain control services.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is performed by chest (thoracic) surgeons in the Thoracic Surgery. Surgeons work with doctors from Pulmonary Medicine, Oncology, Gastroenterology and other specialties to determine if VATS is the right procedure for you.
