Varicose Veins

Diagnosis

Diagnosis and evaluation may involve:

Physical examination and tests
The physical examination by the doctor will include a detailed medical history of the patient, including questions about pain and aching in the legs.

Tests may include checks for blood pressure and blood tests to determine if the patient has diabetes or blood vessel conditions such as atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) which may be causing blood circulation problems.

Ultrasound
To determine if the veins have a blood clot, the patient may have an ultrasound, which uses high-frequency sound waves to provide images of the veins.
