A Molecular Staging Study of Endometrial Cancer (GOG 0210)
This research study is being done to:

  • Collect tissue, urine and blood samples from patients who have endometrial cancer.
  • Collect information from patients (for example: age, race, level of education, health history, family health history, and treatments for cancer).
  • Learn more about, treat and prevent endometrial cancer.
  • Create a tissue storage bank for samples sent to the studys sponsor, the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG).

A Phase 2 Study of Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) to the Pelvis +/- Chemotherapy for Post-operative Patients with either Endometrial or Cervical Cancer
Patients are being asked to take part in this research study because they have endometrial or cervical cancer that has a high risk for coming back as pelvic or endometrial cancer. The purpose of this study is to determine if an advanced radiation therapy delivery technique called intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT see definition below) can spare the patient's normal tissue, including small bowel and large bowel, from radiation.

Definition of IMRT: Many normal tissues, including small bowel and large bowel, are very close to areas at high risk of cancer coming back, such as lymph nodes and vagina. Standard radiation techniques cannot avoid delivering radiation to these normal tissues that do not need to get radiation. IMRT tries to lower the amount of radiation that normal tissues receive, while still delivering the desired amount of radiation to the cancer and to areas that the study doctor thinks may have cancer cells, such as lymph nodes in the pelvis. IMRT does this by using multiple, complicated computer-controlled radiation beams aimed at a patient's cancer.

Doxorubisin/Cisplatin/Paclitaxel and G-CSF versus Carboplatin/Paclitaxel in Patients with Stage III & IV or Recurrent Endometrial Cancer (0209)
This research study is being done to:

  • find out whether treatment with the two-drug combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel is as good as the current standard three-drug combination of cisplatin, doxorubicin, and paclitaxel.
  • find out the differences in side effects and quality of life between the two-drug combination of carboplatin and paclitaxel and the three-drug combination of cisplatin, doxorubicin, and paclitaxel.

Evaluation of a Combination of Two Chemotherapy Drugs, Gemcitabine (Gemzar) and Docetaxel (Taxotere) for the Treatment of Persistent or Recurrent Carcinosarcoma of the Uterus (GOG 0130E)
This study is being done to:
- See if the drugs gemcitabine and docetaxel will cause uterine cancer to shrink (or respond); and to
- Find out what effects (good and bad) the drugs gemcitabine and docetaxel have on the patient and uterine cancer.

Phase II Study of Faslodex in Recurrent/Metastatic Endometrial (Uterine) Cancer
This study is being done to:

- Find out what effects (good and bad) the drug called Faslodex has on a patient and their cancer.
- Find out if patients who have certain hormone receptors respond to treatment with Faslodex differently than patients who do not have these hormone receptors. Hormone receptors are proteins on the surface of cells that bind to a specific hormone. The hormone causes many changes to take place in the cell.
- This study is being conducted by the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)
