Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries

Diagnosis

Mayo Clinic doctors with training in heart disease (cardiologists) have experience in diagnosing people who have congenital heart diseases, including congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries.

Doctors usually diagnose congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries while evaluating other congenital heart problems. Tests may include:

  • Echocardiogram. In this test, sound waves produce a moving detailed picture of your heart's structure, function and blood flow.
  • Electrocardiogram. This test records your heart's electrical activity, showing abnormal rhythms (arrhythmias or dysrhythmias) and detecting heart stress.
  • Cardiac catheterization. In this test, doctors inject a dye into your heart that allows your doctor to see how your heart functions.
