On-the-Job Training
Medical Secretary/Transcriptionist on-the-job training includes training in Mayo Clinic procedures through a combination of classroom and in-office training/mentorship. Some examples of procedure training during first nine weeks include:
- Overview of Mayo departments
- Computer training and software including:
- Microsoft Word for word processing; database appointment, laboratory, and surgical reporting system (optional)
- Electronic clinical notes and letter creation
- Microsoft PowerPoint for slides and graphics (optional)
- Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets
- Electronic mail and calendaring
- Telephone operation and courtesy (triaging calls from patients, referring physicians, etc.)
- Prescheduling patient laboratory tests
