North Star riverboat

North Star

"We will long remember the grand and glorious times we have shared here together," wrote a guest on Dr. Will's riverboat, the North Star. Dr. Will used his boat for hospitality, mentoring and quiet discussions about decisions that set the course for Mayo Clinic. During the Depression, Dr. Will sold the boat and gave the proceeds to the Social Service Department to help pay for the care of needy patients.

This artifact appears with the following story:
1854 The River
The Mississippi River first brought the Mayos to Minnesota.
