Mayo Clinic doctors and scientists invented MRE technology. Each year, Mayo specialists perform thousands of MRE exams. MRE is available at all three Mayo Clinic locations.
Advanced technology
MRE can be used to accurately diagnose liver fibrosis. For many patients, MRE is a more comfortable, safer and less expensive noninvasive alternative to liver biopsy.
Mayo Clinic imaging researchers are working with doctors from many specialties to improve this new technique and explore applications in other diseases, including Alzheimer's, heart failure and breast cancer.

In most cases, Mayo Clinic doesn't require a physician referral. Some insurers require referrals or may have additional requirements for certain medical care. All appointments are prioritized on the basis of medical need.
