Qualifications
You are eligible for the Summer III Nursing Program at Mayo Clinic if you:
- Are enrolled in a four-year baccalaureate nursing program
- Have completed two semesters or three quarters of clinical nursing experience prior to the start of the Summer III Nursing Program
- Meet Mayo Clinic job-related health requirements
- Have a satisfactory academic record
- Are current in basic life support from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association (must have completed either within the last year)
Application process
Applications for the Summer III Nursing Program are due by Jan. 15 of the year you want to participate. Notifications regarding application status are sent in late February.
The application process is electronic, with the Summer III Nursing Program job posting available from Oct. 15 to Jan. 15 each year. To locate the job posting, visit the Jobs at Mayo Clinic page and select "Internships and Summer Opportunities" in the "Job Types" drop-down box.
You are responsible for ensuring that all application materials are complete at the time of submission. The selection committee will not review incomplete applications.
To apply for the program:
- Obtain your official or unofficial transcript from your registrar's office.
- In a Microsoft Word document, answer these essay questions:
- What nursing-related and other committee, community and volunteer activities have you been involved in at the local, state and national level?
- Why do you have an interest in the Summer III Nursing Program, what differentiates you from other applicants and why should you be selected?
- Briefly, what are your goals for and expectations of the Summer III Nursing Program?
- Visit the Internships and Summer Opportunities page to apply online between Oct. 15 and Jan. 15. Be sure to attach your transcript and essay answers to your online application before submitting it. As a reminder, any applications submitted without these documents will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed.
- Have a faculty member from your nursing school complete the Faculty Clinical Reference form. Upon completion, he or she should submit it directly to Mayo Clinic using the green "submit via email" button at the end. If the button doesn't work, save a copy of the completed form and email it to summer3@mayo.edu. This form must be received before the Jan. 15 application deadline.
