Sports Medicine in Florida

Research

The research mission of the sports medicine group is to assess injury treatment and prevention and evaluate medical problems in the athlete. One focus has been on marathon runners participating in the 26.2 with Donna, National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer.

Recent Research

Sports Medicine clinicians conduct numerous studies into physical and psychological issues affecting recreational, amateur and professional athletes. Some current research topics include:

• Characteristics of the athletic heart in professional male tennis players
• Exercise stress testing
• Eosinophilic fasciitis in a duathlete
• Hyponatremia in marathon and half-marathon participants
