Sports Performance Enhancement in Minnesota

Hockey and Skating

Hockey and Skating

The Mayo Clinic hockey and skating performance enhancement program to help players reach their highest potential, offers a thorough assessment and personalized training plan. Players from beginners to professionals can benefit from our expertise and individual attention.

Complement to Sports Camps

Mayo's hockey and skating program focuses on improving the mechanics of the sport's physical activities in an off-ice setting. While sports camps teach team strategy and skills-directed activities, our program provides individual, comprehensive assessment of current abilities and a personalized training prescription, based on identified goals.

Current Issues, Mental Assessment

Prior to the physical assessment and consultation, you will complete a hockey-specific questionnaire covering everything from past experience to mental preparedness. This reflects the comprehensive assessment we provide; besides a musculoskeletal assessment and fitness recommendations, we also evaluate personal goals, your history with the sport and mental strategies. A sports psychology consultant is on hand to provide counseling on mental skills training, such as the establishment of a pregame mental routine.

Program Features

Our experienced, specially trained physical therapists provide the following services, all designed to enhance performance and reduce the risk of injury.

  • Comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment of strength, flexibility, core stability, power, balance, nutrition and mental preparedness
  • Identification and prioritization of performance deficiencies
  • Training recommendations tailored to individual fitness needs and goals
  • Focused teaching of proper exercise form, technique and sequence to maximize benefit

Most participants find the most benefit by completing the program in the preseason or off-season, so that they can focus on mechanics and their mental game and complete the prescribed training program prior to the first game of the season.
