The treatment team consists of dedicated and knowledgeable physicians and therapists interested in the outpatient treatment of adults with long term complications related to chronic spinal cord injuries. Physiatrists often lead the team. These are physicians who specialize in rehabilitation medicine. In addition to Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, other departments often involved in rehabilitating people with spinal cord injuries are Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Surgery. Physicians from Neurology, Urology, Psychiatry, Pulmonary Medicine and Gastroenterology may also be consulted. Physical and occupational therapists are an important part of the team, where members work together to determine the best course of action for each patient.
