Children

Soft tissue sarcoma is rare and diagnosed less often in children and teenagers than in adults. Doctors diagnose and treat adults and children with soft tissue sarcoma in much the same way. Treatment options include surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Sometimes a combination of these treatments offers the best chance of success.

• At Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, children with soft tissue sarcoma are treated by experienced specialists in pediatric hematology and oncology, pediatric surgery, orthopedic oncology, and radiation oncology. Children who need inpatient care stay at Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital, a family-friendly facility.
• Although Mayo Clinic in Arizona does not manage the care of children with soft tissue sarcoma, pediatric oncologists at Phoenix Children's Hospital may send teenagers to Mayo Clinic in Arizona for radiation therapy or orthopedic surgery.
• Although Mayo Clinic in Florida does not manage the care of children with soft tissue sarcoma, pediatric oncologists from Nemours Children's Clinic may send teenagers to Mayo Clinic in Florida for orthopedic surgery if needed.
