Salivary Gland Cancer

Research

Mayo Clinic specialists conduct research on benign and malignant salivary gland tumors through the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. Like patient care, research is also collaborative, involving scientists from multiple disciplines including otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, radiation oncology, hematology-oncology, immunology and molecular medicine. The research goals include enhancing patients' quality of life and improving the possibility for cure.

Areas of research include:

  • Identifying proteins that play a role in the body's immune response to cancer
  • Stimulating a patient's own white blood cells to fight cancer
  • Treating tumors with concurrent chemotherapy and radiation therapy
