Robotic Partial Nephrectomy

Candidates

At Mayo Clinic, prospective nephrectomy patients undergo several imaging procedures to determine whether partial or radical (complete) nephrectomy is the better treatment choice.

A candidate for an open or a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy is probably also a candidate for robotic partial nephrectomy. If multiple tumors or other factors may complicate the surgery, the robotic system's precision and accuracy can be particularly beneficial.

Mayo Clinic surgeons expect to perform more robotic partial nephrectomies as the procedures become more commonly available; robotic partial nephrectomy is one of several types of robotic surgery. Read more about robot-assisted surgery at Mayo Clinic.
