Rhabdomyosarcoma

Types

The three main types of rhabdomyosarcoma are:

Botryoid Rhabdomyosarcoma — This form often occurs in hollow organs, such as the bladder, vagina and uterus. It's often seen in infants and toddlers.

Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcomas (ERMS) — This is the most common type of rhabdomyosarcoma, and it typically occurs in children. Botryoid and spindle cell rhabdomyosarcoma are two variants of ERMS and tend to have better prognosis than ERMS, the more common form.

Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcomas (ARMS) — This type of rhabdomyosarcoma typically affects older children and teenagers. Malignant cells normally affect large muscles forming hollow spaces (alveoli).
