Risks

  • Female gender: Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is up to twice as common in women than in men
  • Pregnancy
  • Family members with RLS
  • Iron deficiency
  • End-stage kidney disease
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Use of some medications, such as:
    • Antidepressants
    • Sedating antihistamines
    • Centrally active dopamine-receptor antagonists such as some anti-nausea drugs
