Rectal Cancer

Treatment in Minnesota

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota treats patients with the treatment options described on these pages. Mayo Clinic in Rochester is one of the largest colon and rectal surgery care centers in the United States, with eight surgeons on staff. Mayo Clinic's board-certified surgeons are national and international leaders in their field. They perform 100 to 150 surgeries for rectal cancer per year. This volume produces outstanding outcomes for patients immediately after surgery and over the long term.

The opening of the Gonda Building has enabled Mayo Clinic to locate services for rectal cancer patients under one roof. As a result, patients can see a gastroenterologist, a surgeon and an oncologist, as well as undergo diagnostic procedures on the same floor on the same day. In many cases, surgery can be scheduled for the day after the problem is diagnosed.

Patients who have rectal cancer are treated by specialists from Colon and Rectal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology and Medical Genetics.
