Animals and insects, trees and flowers, rivers and lakes. At Mayo Clinic? The Pediatric Center on the 16th floor of the Mayo Building offers all this and more in a child-friendly environment.
Mayo Clinic recently celebrated the grand opening of the Mayo Clinic T. Denny Sanford Pediatric Outpatient Center. The center represents a first for Mayo Clinic: a multiple-
department pediatric practice in a center designed especially for children and their families. The new center brings together many pediatric subspecialty staff and services into a single location dedicated to children so patients and their families can come to a single floor and see pediatric radiologists as well as many other specialists. Children not only can see their physicians, but also have their blood drawn and imaging studies all done in a center dedicated to the unique needs of children and families. This is especially helpful for children with special needs for whom traveling to many different areas can be a challenge.
The center features an inspiring Midwest nature theme designed to calm and heal as well as engage patients and their families. Each of the four major corridors in the center showcases an Upper Midwest habitat — lakes, forest, wetlands, and prairies. Colorful mosaics, floor-to-ceiling imitation birch trees, a representation of the Mississippi River meandering through the lobby, and a glass "Discovery Wall" are just some of the fascinating artistic features visitors will discover. The pediatric center nature theme encourages children to take care of both themselves and the earth and offers them an opportunity to learn about the Midwest's wonderful and varied habitats.
