Radiation Oncology in Arizona

Specialty Groups

At Mayo Clinic in Arizona, radiation oncologists work with physicians in other specialties, including surgery, medical oncology, internal medicine, pathology and diagnostic radiology, to design an individualized course of treatment appropriate for each patient's tumor.

Teams of specialists are organized based on disease site (the location of the cancer on the body) to provide the most appropriate care for patients. Board-certified radiation oncologists are members of each disease site team:

  • Brain/neurological
  • Breast
  • Gastrointestinal (anus, colon, rectum, esophagus, hepatobiliary, pancreas, stomach)
  • Genitourinary (bladder, kidney, prostate, testis)
  • Gynecologic (cervix, ovary, uterus, vulva, vagina)
  • Lung
  • Lymphoma/leukemia
  • Melanoma/skin and sarcoma (extremity, retroperitoneal)
  • Sarcoma (bone, soft tissue)

Each disease site team is independent, but all teams work together to develop diagnostic and treatment algorithms (step-by-step procedures) and guidelines for patient evaluation and care. The teams develop and evaluate clinical research protocols and determine how multidisciplinary teams can best benefit patients.
