Mayo Clinic Quality Rankings

Mayo Clinic is recognized by more well-known national assessment organizations than any other major U.S. hospital or clinic.

These endorsements reinforce our century-old commitment to provide the highest quality care to each patient every day. While no single set of measures can perfectly represent health care quality, we are proud to be recognized by so many.

The following organizations recognize Mayo Clinic for high levels of quality and safety:

  • U.S. News Best Hospitals Honor Roll
    Mayo Clinic has ranked at or near the top of "Honor Roll" hospitals through the history of U.S. News and World Report's best hospital rankings.
  • UHC Quality Leadership Award
    Rochester hospitals received the 2011 Quality Leadership Award, given to 10 academic medical centers that demonstrate excellence in delivering high-quality care as measured by the UHC Quality & Accountability Study.
  • Leapfrog Top Hospitals
    Three Mayo Clinic hospitals were named to Leapfrog's Top Hospitals list. This designation recognizes hospitals that deliver the highest quality care by preventing medical errors, reducing mortality for high-risk procedures and reducing hospital readmissions.
  • Leapfrog hospital safety
    Mayo Clinic is recognized for patient safety by Leapfrog. The Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital-safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital's overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
  • Picker Award for Excellence
    Mayo Clinic is honored for outstanding patient care by the Picker Institute. This award is given annually as an educational component of improving patient-centered care.
  • Nursing Magnet status
    Mayo Clinic is awarded Magnet Program recognition for its Rochester nursing program. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. Consumers rely on Magnet designation as the ultimate credential for high-quality nursing.
  • Consumer Reports hospital safety
    Mayo Clinic is recognized by Consumer Reports' hospital ratings.
  • Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For
    The ranking is based on data from more than 10 million employees in 45 countries representing over 5,500 organizations of varying sizes, industries and structures.
  • The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP)
    Rochester Methodist Hospital achieved exemplary outcomes for surgical patient care. The recognition program commends a select group of hospitals for achieving exemplary outcome performances related to patient management in two or more of five clinical areas.
