Pyoderma Gangrenosum

Research

Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) was identified by Mayo Clinic dermatologists in 1930. After PG was recognized, many patients were spared from aggressive surgical procedures and amputation. More recently, Mayo clinicians contributed research describing the extent to which PG is misdiagnosed. Mayo is also involved with research testing tumor necrosis factor (TNF) blockers as a treatment agent. TNF is a cell protein that acts as an inflammatory agent. TNF blockers inhibit the action of this protein.
