Pulmonary Hypertension

Symptoms

Whether the patient's problem is caused by another condition or appears by itself, several clues point to the diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. These clues may be difficult for the patient to recognize due to the often slow progression of the disease and gradual onset of symptoms. Symptoms may include:

  • Shortness of breath, dizziness, and even fainting spells
  • Fatigue or tiredness, for little or no reason
  • Swelling in the ankles or legs, or a bluish tint to lips, fingernails, or skin
  • Chest pain may occur at more advanced stages of the disease
