Pulmonary Hypertension

Treatment in Florida

Physicians specializing in lung disease, some of whom have 20 years of experience, offer all the diagnosis and treatment options for pulmonary hypertension described in these pages. Mayo Clinic's multispecialty practice makes it possible for patient to have a complete diagnostic evaluation of pulmonary hypertension and other related medical conditions.

More than 400 patients with this rare lung disease have been treated at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville in the last 10 years, and about 125 receive care at any one time. Patients have been successfully treated with all available forms of treatment, including transition from intravenous medication to oral therapy. Successful innovations at the Jacksonville clinic include multi-organ transplantation and refining the use of echocardiography to more accurately measure pulmonary artery pressures. The program has active clinical research protocols to provide patients with opportunities for advanced treatment.

Specialists in Pulmonary Medicine coordinate the care of patients with pulmonary hypertension, bringing in other specialists as needed, including Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant Surgery.
