The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation provides care to inpatients and outpatients. In addition to a sports medicine clinic, the department offers services in conjunction with other Mayo specialists for chronic low back pain, neck pain, chronic-pain syndrome, abnormal gait, fibromyalgias, myofascial-pain syndrome, tension myalgias and rehabilitation of various nervous system conditions, including post-polio syndrome, multiple sclerosis, cerebral vascular accidents and spinal cord pathology.

The department's physiatrists offer evaluation and rehabilitation management of the following conditions and disorders:

• Musculoskeletal and connective tissue problems
• Central nervous system disorders
• Peripheral nervous system problems
• Post-traumatic conditions, including spinal cord injury, brain injury and fractures
• Post-surgical rehabilitation for amputations, arthroplasties, etc.
• Cerebral vascular, lymphedema and other circulatory disorders
• Neurogenic bladder and bowel conditions
• Cancer rehabilitation
