Services

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) offers comprehensive physical medicine and rehabilitation care for both inpatients and outpatients directed at helping them restore movement and function. Physician evaluations as well as physical, speech and occupational therapy services are available.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit -Treatment occurs 365 days/year. Consultations for transfers from other hospitals are available through PM&R. Patients are seen primarily for the following:

• Stroke
• Neurological Disorders (i.e. multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, non-traumatic myelopathy, Guillain-Barre syndrome)
• Complex Post-Operative Orthopedic Rehabilitation

Consultative Physician Services – Physicians and staff strive to provide thorough evaluations, diagnoses and compassionate care through a wide range of services that include:

• Evaluation and treatment of spinal disorders (i.e. spinal stenosis, radiculopathies, etc). Management may also involve referral to Neurosurgery or the Pain Clinic.
• Evaluation and rehabilitation management of Musculoskeletal Disorders, including:
• sports injuries
• rotator cuff injuries
• tennis elbow
• Evaluation and rehabilitation of neurological disorders (i.e. multiple sclerosis, stroke, ALS). Management may also involve consultations with neurological and neurosurgical specialty clinics. Rehabilitation management of amputations.

Therapy Rehabilitation Services – Our dedicated rehabilitation staff represents many specialty areas, allowing us to offer a full range of inter-disciplinary services to each patient. Therapy services are available at Mayo Fountain Hills Family Medicine, Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix and Mayo Arrowhead Family Medicine. In addition to the general practice of therapy, we offer the following specialties:

• Vestibular rehabilitation

• Certified geriatric specialist
• Bowel and bladder rehabilitation following diagnostic work-up and referral
• Pre-work screenings
• Work conditioning
• Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)
• Allen Cognitive Assessments
• Runners evaluations/sports rehab
• Speech Pathology – Therapists provide evaluation/treatment of: swallowing (videofluoroscopy), voice (videostroboscopy), speech, communication and cognitive disorders.
