Benign Peripheral Nerve Tumors

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of peripheral nerve tumors vary depending on the cause and type of nerve tumor.

For nerve tumors that develop on the skin, signs and symptoms may include:

  • A noticeable mass of tissue
  • Pain or feeling of radiating tingling when the tissue mass is touched
  • Change in sensation on the skin, either becoming highly sensitive to touch or feeling numb

For nerve tumors not noticeable on the skin, symptoms may include:

  • Tingling sensation or loss of feeling in the affected body part
  • Muscle weakness in the affected body part, such as weakness in the hand, with a tendency to drop objects
  • In severe cases, there may be loss of muscle control, such as inability to move an arm or foot
