Patients travel to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota from across the United States and from many countries for treatment of brain tumors. Each year Mayo Clinic in Minnesota cares for more than 3,000 patients, adults and children, who have brain and nervous system tumors.
Mayo Clinic's strength is its integrated care for brain tumors, meaning all medical services a patient might need — doctor visits, testing, surgery, hospital care – are offered in one place and in a coordinated and efficient way.
Mayo makes extensive use of technology, including intraoperative MRI, radiosurgery (including the latest Gamma Knife™ treatment), PET scanning, awake brain surgery, rapid pathological analysis of tissue, and computer-assisted brain surgery to give patients the best chance of positive outcomes.
Brain tumors are treated by pediatric specialists in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, Psychology and Brain Rehabilitation. Mayo's system makes it easy for these specialists to freely consult with each other (which is why Mayo doctors are called consultants) to determine the best treatment plan for each patient.
